ARTIST BIO
Nathalie Dahlgren is a Swedish interdisciplinary artist based in the Northern Rivers of NSW, Australia, whose creative process is rooted in intuition, storytelling, and deep listening. She draws her inspiration from her own experiences as well as Scandinavian folklore, ancient art findings, nature, music, and culture. Her work often begins with a subtle spark: a feeling, a colour, a sound, or the quiet presence of something making itself known.
In her most recent body of work, she explores the concept of origin and the power of reconnecting to ancestral roots through abstract expression, colours, sound, and texture. By weaving poems into her pieces, Nathalie expands the meaning of each artwork, further deepening the storytelling element that remains central to her practice. Drawing on abstract methodologies, she approaches each piece as a collaboration with the unseen, describing herself as both a curious listener and a co-creator who allows the process to unfold through its natural rhythms. Receptivity and presence are essential elements, guiding the work as it emerges from the liminal space between the known and the unknown.
With 26 years of experience creating art, she views this practice as a kind of sanctuary for the mind. It is a space where thought steps aside to make room for something other to enter. Her work becomes an act of attunement: a way to honour not only the art of listening, but the human need to create and co-create with what lies just beyond the visible. Her exhibition history includes two solo shows and numerous group exhibitions across Sweden and Australia. Aside from creating her own visual art, she facilitates one-on-one intuitive art sessions designed to guide individuals in exploring their inner world and their relationship to the unseen.
Nathalie is also the singer and co-creator of the dark-folk electronic music project Vardlokkr, which draws inspiration from her Scandinavian heritage. Vardlokkr released their self-titled debut EP in July 2023.
