Series: ORIGIN
Growing up in the Swedish countryside, I developed an intimate relationship with nature and the rich history and folklore of the land. There, I discovered the healing power of connecting to ancestral culture through singing and painting.
In my most recent body of work, I explore my Scandinavian origins by fusing primordial symbolism with my own motifs. I use a Scandinavian colour palette to make reference to memories, three thousand year old stone carvings, Norse culture and Birch forests.
When the glaciers of the last ice age receded in Scandinavia, Birch trees were one of the first plants to grow on the barren landscape. They have since played a vital role in the Scandinavian culture, symbolising fertility, rebirth, healing and purification.
