The Birch tree has long since been a symbol of rebirth, fertility, healing and purification.

When the glaciers of the last ice age receded in Scandinavia, Birch trees were one of the first plants to grow on the rocky landscape.
With its hardwood, beauty and elven like presence the Birch tree has for thousands of years played an important role in Swedish culture and the old traditions that have been past down from generation to generation
In honour of the places in Sweden that are dear to my heart, I have started working on a collection of Birch tree paintings. Each Birch tree that I paint represents one of these places along with the gifts it has given me.
 
HÄSSELBY BIRCH TREE represents the Grandmother trees in our gardens.
That old tree that saw us grow up, and perhaps saw our parents and grandparents growing up.
We played in her fallen leaves and climbed her branches.
Stability and safety,
memories and love.
