The creation of this painting started with a few brush strokes of paint that I had left from another piece.
I did not intend to create anything in particular at the time as my goal was to just hold a brush again after a long break.
After the strokes of burned umber, I removed most of the paint from the canvas and the pattern that was imprinted in the canvas revealed a head, one eye, a long beard, parts of long hair and the outline of a sitting body with two feet!
I enhanced the lines that were already there with charcoal which brought the image quickly to life and I felt a mighty presence and a incredible stillness; a combination that is felt when you meet a mountain.
